If you are a mixed aged couple, you may be able to claim Pension Credit or Housing Benefit rather than Universal Credit
Do you live with a partner and only one of you has reached pension age, and are not already claiming Pension Credit or Housing Benefit?
If so, you may be able to safeguard your future income by claiming Housing Benefit before the 15th May 2019. If you are already on Housing Benefit, you will then be able to make a new claim for Pension Credit. However, if you are not on Housing Benefit by 15th May 2019, you will have to claim Universal Credit instead, which is much less generous and you may not be entitled to.
For more advice on claiming Housing Benefit or Pension Credit please contact your local borough council. If you are already on Universal Credit, you can also get advice from your local borough council about ‘swapping’ to Pension Credit and Housing Benefit before the 15th May 2019.
