Sepsis in Adults Symptoms

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused by the body’s immune system going into overdrive trying to fight an infection.

Every year there are thousands of cases of sepsis in the UK, some of which result in death, and a high number of these cases are children.

Acting quickly could save a child’s life. Parents or guardians of children aged 0-4 are encouraged to go to A&E immediately or call 999 if they have any of the following symptoms:

  • Looks mottled, bluish or pale
  • Is very lethargic or difficult to wake
  • Feels abnormally cold to touch
  • Is breathing very fast
  • Has a rash that does not fade when you press it
  • Has a fit or convulsion
