Community Award launches for second year

Molesey Community Garden Progress from FoMC (2)

Crown Simmons Housing has been working with Elmbridge Borough Council to launch the Iris Simmons Community Award Molesey Community Garden Progress from FoMC (2)Scheme for the second year. The Scheme recognises the work of Iris Simmons, the former Mayor of Elmbridge and Crown Simmons Housing founder, before her death in 2013. The Scheme is designed to recognise and reward community initiatives that improve housing conditions and the well-being of older people in Elmbridge.

Paul Yates, Chief Executive of Crown Simmons Housing, said: “When the award scheme was originally launched it was a £1,000 fund, this year we have worked closely with key suppliers KNK, Smith & Byford and William Lacey Group to bring the total fund prize to £1,500”.

Councillor Christine Elmer, Social Portfolio Holder at Elmbridge Borough Council, commented: “I was very pleased to be involved in considering applicants last year and can see the real value of this award scheme. I would encourage local projects that support older people to apply for funding and request a copy of the application form”.

Last year’s winners the Friends of Molesey Centre used the £1,000 award to help create a new accessible dementia-friendly community garden in West Molesey (pictured – right).
