Crown Simmons scheme named in Top 60 UK Developments 2015

Crown Simmons Housing works with local authorities and both small and large developers to acquire and build affordable housing.

Over the past few years we have built-up an impressive development portfolio for our size. Through working with small, family-run construction businesses to large private developers and local authorities, we have developed 13 estates, totalling 171 homes, of which 147 are affordable for those on lower incomes. We have two new developments currently on site  providing  a total of 39 new  homes for shared ownership and affordable rent. Our business plan target is to add up to a further 120 new homes over the next four years.

We work in partnership with a number of local authority partners focusing on providing housing for people on low or moderate incomes.

The map below shows where we work.

We deliver homes through Section 106’s with Developers – often focusing on  smaller sites of two or more units that larger Registered Providers have little interest. We are also increasingly seeking to develop in our own right – new build schemes of up to 30 homes.

Paul Yates, Chief Executive of Crown Simmons Housing said of the award, “It’s fantastic that Castlemaine Court has been recognised as one of the best designed new developments of the year.

I know that all of our tenants are really pleased with their new homes and each time I visit it seems that the design is working well. The external walkways and communal gardens give a real feeling of space and light.

It was a challenging development to complete but the outcome is well worth the hard work that was put in to create such a great place to live.”

Emma Maier, editor of Inside Housing, said: “Across the UK there is a crisis in the supply of quality, affordable homes. We launched the Top 60 Developments this year to reward those who are excelling in providing much-needed homes.

We were inundated with entries from the leading organisations who have been behind the most innovative and impressive projects in the UK.

It is a brilliant achievement for Crown Simmons’ Castlemaine Court to make it into the Top 60 in the face of such fierce competition.”

Residents Jagita and Jasbir, and their son, Ranvir, had spent two-and-a-half years in temporary accommodation, sharing a bedroom in a house where they shared the kitchen and bathroom with other families.

“It was horrible,” Jagita says, “the only word there is to describe it: horrible.” When the family viewed the flat at Castlemaine Court, their first thought was, “WOW!” – they wanted to move in straight away.

Shortly before they moved in to their new home, their daughter, Priya, was born. Now that they have a safe, secure home, the family are, “definitely happy,” saying of their new neighbours that, “everyone’s very friendly”.
